I'm going to probate court today can you give me any tips that will make me less nervous?

I'm supposed to answer "your honor" right, an what should I wear?

Professional dress. Pay attention, speak clearly and relax

Dress like you would for an important occasion. Many people dress like they would to go to church on Sunday -- men with suit coat and tie, women with a dress or skirt and blouse, or pants suit.

If you have a cell phone, either leave it in your car or have it turned off when you go into the courtroom. Nothing upsets judges more than having a cell phone ring in the courtroom. If you are expecting an important call, you may set it to vibrate and then leave the courtroom to speak. Best to tell your friends not to call.

You should treat the court with respect. Call the judge "Your honor" or "sir."

Many times probate judges will try to "relax" the tone of any hearing to make people more comfortable. There is generally not the kind of tension in the courtroom that you would see in a criminal trial.

If you are represented by an attorney, he or she should review what you can expect during the hearing to make you both better prepared and more "at ease" or comfortable. If you are to give testimony, the attorney should also review what you will say on the witness stand.

First thing, don't panic. Don't worry about what you call the judge, it's quite informal and they won't clap you in irons for using the wrong form of address. "Sir" will do fine (or Madam, of course). Don't worry if you forget to say that either. You're not a lawyer and you aren't expected to know the finer points. All that is expected is normal politneness.

Same goes for your dress, too. Just something neat and clean will do, you're not expected to invest in something expensive for the occasion.

The judge I had liked it when everyone said that they are really sorry for what they did. Those who didn't say that they were sorry got harder sentencing. I cried and apologized they handed me a tissue, I dressed in nice dress clothes and just played the part that it was a bad day and everyone makes mistakes. It seemed to work, but try to remain calm before hand otherwise you might push your self to far and end up sick the whole week. But you should be fine. They also like when everyone calls them sir or ma'am depending on where you are going. Good Luck I hope it all works out.

Relax! you are not on trial! Just answer the Judge's questions to the best of your ability, "your honor" or "sir" will do. And don't whatever you do DEMAND anything! A lady in front of me, demanded this, and demanded that, and got nothing. When my turn came up, I said, " I would like to ----please Sir!! I got what I wanted!!! You catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar! Good luck!!

Make sure u seem ignorant and like u dont care, and that u are to good for the court system. then the judge should let u off lol.
