UK citizens - Knife crime - How many of you would vote for this?

(American brothers & sisters, please realise that carrying dangerous illegal knives in the UK is different to in USA!
In UK only scum bags carry guns and knives (it is because of our culture, history and traditions)

Anyone in UK carrying a knife would go direct to a special 'Weapon Crimes Camp' on an uninhabited island off the coast of Britain, with old army tents and barbed wire, for 2 years fixed term. Give the military some training in 'Prisoner Of War' experience!!!

YES OK - Statistics show that increasing sentencing by a SMALL margin does not necessarily act as a deterent in reducing crime, by itself... i realise that, BUT... common sense dictates that by increasing sentencing by a LARGE margin DOES!!! Also, very importantly, they will be off our once nice peaceful streets for 2 years minimum. They will have no TV or computers, they will have no visitors (with the exception of under 16's). Football etc is permitted, and reading.

There can be LOTS of TV advertising before... saying

""YOU can choose either carry a knife OR you will get stuck on a cold island in a marquee with other losers for two years, surrounded by the army and barbed wire"".

Full CCTV everywhere (like on the TV show Big Brother). Drugs blood test every week. Anyone found on drugs or being violent will get an extra 6 months. They will learn that there is NO advantage to knives and muggings and violence on the streets.

(Murderers go to a different prison and are only allowed out in the most exceptional circumstances!!! And not before 75 yrs of age, and only if they have behaved perfectly).

Technicaly we already have the answer, but we are too soft to use even the powers that are currently available.

Our prisons are too soft, sentences too light.
I personally don't give a stuff if prisoners do not get a trade/educated, an ordinary job will not stop many from reoffending as crime pays a lot more with little risk.
Get back to making prisons a place where people do not want to go, and make them stay there for a significant period of time.
We should not have a massive choice of foods.
We should bring back chain gangs and make them work hard in exchange for the food they eat.
Make all prisoners wear prison issue clothing only.
Visits should be through clear screens and without contact. There should be no computer games and no in-cell tv.
Power should be switched off in cells one hour after lock up.
If prisoners misbehave, then add 3 months for each offence without the need for us to pay for judges to make prison visits.

We now have cases where prisoners are asking their probation officer to class them as in breach of their licences in order to get back inside.

I do not agree with some comments that capital punishment did not work.
However, I can tell you something for definate, those who were hung never, ever re-offended again.
People were at last safe from them forever.
The victims and families got some sort of closure.
The public did not have to pay 拢45,000 each a year to keep them.
I am not one for killing the innocent & therefore if it cannot be proved 100% that someone committed murder, then commute the sentence to life (meaning life).
If you do not mean to use a knife/gun, why are they carrying one.
Capital punishment wont stop all, but it might stop some who think that there is a punishment if caught.

Yes i would i know that the cost of supervising these people would be high but it be worth it. I t would save lives of innocent people and save heart break of their relatives. Anyway why can`t we make these thugs work on that inhabitable terrain to make it habitable.

I'm not sure about this. If you live in an area where a lot of scumbags carry guns and knives is it such a horrible crime to carry one to protect yourself? Though I suppose walking around carrying a bedpost or something to protect yourself would be more legal.

Yeah right. Are you going to pay for this? You've got to get them there, feed them, supervise them and stop them escaping. I haven't done a full costing, but I'd guess it will cost about an extra 5p on the income tax. Now see who'll vote for that.

The current system does not work, so the whole issue of crime & punishment needs to be rethought.

For 'minor' crimes may be a better rehabilitation system & for violent & sex attacks a much stiffer long term prison and punishment regime.

I think it is a GREAT idea, but unfortunately all the bearded wonders wearing their bow ties will start squeaking about human rights and comparing the island to the USA's Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

I assume you are in favour of this system for all those you consider 'major' offenders of our laws, paedophiles , rapists , all muggers, all folk that are judged to have caused harm to others, the list is endless.
These folk would obviously all need to be segregated into different compounds? Or should we lump them all together and let them kill each other off? (your answer would be yes)?
We, at one time shipped thousands of 'criminals' off to Australia (out of sight, out of mind) did that stop crime in UK?
We hung by the neck until dead , did that stop murder, or even reduce it?
Very recently we flogged, which means we ripped into flesh until it bled, young and old, did that do any good?
I am not a bleeding heart liberal, I really do get angry over this stabbing stuff, in fact all violence esp' violence against women and children and old folk.
I even had little ideas based around a vigilantly group, crack a few skulls, that would certainly move the local yobs away from a given area, the police cant do it!
This would just move them on to another area.
I dont know the answer, truth is no one knows the answer.

as stated in many answers, the cost would be astronomical. why should we pay to feed, shelter & supervise those who would seek to maim or kill us. to rob us of not only our piece of mind & security, but to rob our families of a father/mother/son/daughter/brother/siste... etc etc etc.
here's the solution. plain & simple. if you are not a police officer & you are carrying a readily accessible weapon in public, you will be taken to the nearest wall & shot in the head as you WERE intent on committing murder. (attempted or otherwise is irrlevant)
watch the cowering little vermin ditch their knives & guns in record numbers if this were the case. shoot the rabid little parasites on sight, i say. fully licenced "thug-hunts". even place a bounty on them. 拢50 for every score of dead "ganztas" etc (or whatever self-styled "big hard man" nonsense it is they call themselves) handed in.
