Why should every US citizen between the ages of 18-20 be required to serve in the military?

This is a debate question for class

Why SHOULD all 18-20 y. o. people serve, because it would teach them valuable life-long skills necessary to succeed in any area of life. It would keep some out of jail, some out of lives of misery involved in drug useage, some out of marraiges that would fail, some out of...

Criminal illegal entrants into the United States be required to serve as well or go to jail..

You know [ or should] that even if there were such a law, people would arrange it so that their Little Precious could get out of it...

Interesting on the TD, even though my answer is true..
Would you WANT every Tom, Dick and Henrietta beside you in the military?

The military will teach things like accepting personal responsibility, not to take drugs and be a team player.
Civilian life teaches 'what's in it for me', they all want to do whatever immoral and stupid things they can think of and as long as they don't get caught they continue on.. I think it would do a lot of people a lot of good to be in service for 2 years.

not possible, not everyone is fit for the military, you don't remember playing dodgeball in elementary school?

and all the positive things that the military can teach you, should be the responsibility of the parent to instill into their children

Um, there is no draft and hasn't been sense 1972. It's an all volunteer military so they DON'T HAVE TO SERVE. What cave have you been living under kid?

It could help keep the military industrial complex up and running.

military not necessary, but at least community service.

who said they should be? Or, are you asking if they should? Clarify please.

They shouldn't.

Who better to pay for Bush's mistake than our children. Your so thoughtful!
