Should people on Welfare be subjected to Drug tests?

The people in the military defending America are required to get regular drug testing. But people who don't do anything get a paycheck and may very well be smoking the devil's cabbage with that money.

Well Heartless, if that is your real name. Your military is required to get these drug tests and they protect your freedom, how is this an intrusion into thier privacy if they are breaking the law?

Yes. Most definitely. This is just one of many requirements that should be required in order to receive welfare benefits. I think many hardworking Americans are frustrated with supporting the lazy people of this country without many necessary conditions on receiving assistance. This is not to say that all people are frustrated, or that all people on welfare are lazy. I personally would feel better if tax dollars were used to support people that met stringent threshold requirements.

Especially people who take welfare by claiming a tax deduction for mortgage interest. All those people live in subsidized housing and should be tested regularly.

Heck yes.....that is what I call an economic stimulus package since many would lose Welfare benefits.

no,that would be an illegal intrusion in their lives much like the government tapping your phone lies with out a warrent. you would not like that . i do agree that there must be a better way to moniter these people. we might get rid of the professional wellfare people who hog up all the benifits and leave little for our disabled ,or elderly our veterans.

Yes. Most employers require new hires to take a drug test so getting any type of government assistant should require random testing.

Many people on welfare are disabled and can't work. Many of them take seizure drugs. I guess they would test positive for seizure drugs.

As someone who has been on food stamps and has had friends on welfare, I say yes. Too many people abuse the system. It's meant to provide temporary assistance to those who can't work. Not a secondary income for drug dealers or finance for someone's addiction.

I'm disabled and on a plethora of meds...I guess they'd have to keep my meds in mind when they tested, but I'd pee in a cup if they wanted it.

Yes, because their checks come from the peoples' pockets. The mission of Welfare is to allow people to get back on their feet through temporary assitance. Not only is using drugs against the law, but it's also not considered to be productive. Should a person be using drugs while accepting Welfare checks, then they should be taken off the program immediately. It's irresponsible and counterproductive. If one wants to apply for Welfare, he or she should not even consider using drugs, for it is unfair to the American people who are assisting them. Personally, I don't want to pay for John Doe's weed. Thus, he or she should be subjected to durg tests.

I am sure that would be against the constitution in some way.

You cannot judge people to be drug takers, just because they are on welfare.
