Do u think if u are in the arm forces u should beable to drink at 18?

I think if u can fight 4 this country and u take a chance in getting killed u should be able 2 set down at a bar and have a beer as long u have a military ID. What do u think?

Psalmsmuse is quite correct in his response. When I was enlisted (ever so long ago) the drinking age was 21, however, on military base all enlisted could drink at the on base USO. Even so, in retrospect (and with some maturity) the desire to drink is overrated. As with all things moderation is the goal of self control and success. Youth is the time of extravagance and over indulgence, that is why society often places restraint on the young. Restraints that provide them with the opportunity and time to mature.

Rather than rail against what you believe an injustice, embrace it and earn the growth beyond that restraint.

I think it should be legal. Since it is not I would have to say No

I disagree i think that you should follow the same rules as everyone else, because no matter who you are drinking can have the same consequences.

i think in order to be a good officer in the armed forces you have to be mature enough to realize that alcohol is bad for you.

i completely agree.

If you are old enough to die for your country then you should be old enough to drink.

The Army frowns upon all drinking, so its an old and over used excuse for why we should be able to drink at 18

in australia you can legally drink at 18 so no problems like that over here.. quite stupid how you have to wait so long over in the US

In my 16 years of service, I've never actually heard this argument come from a soldier--only from civilians. My response is, "If you're a soldier, I'll respect your line of reasoning a lot more."

On principle, I agree with you. However, the reality of the situation (based on my experience) is that alcohol can interfere with the morale and welfare of some soldiers (I think you can read between the lines), and allowing soldiers to drink at 18 would increase the inherent troubles enough as to make your proposal unwise.
