If someone officially accuses you of wanting to kill them in their sleep can you sue them for something? |
So there is a very long complicated story behind all this but basically my girl friend and her housemate (who is an RA) have been going to mediation sessions because the RA is paranoid that my gf is going to kill her in her sleep and has gone on record saying this. The reason she believes this is because one night when she was very plastered she had a discussion with me and asked if my gf was still mad at her not having cleaned the house and I said that she had been upset but I did not know anymore and that she should talk to her if she was worried. Anyway about 2 months of mediations and various progressions of official procedures have gone by my gf is being moved out because of her housemate feeling unsafe and uncomfortable. Note neither myself not my gfs roommate have ever been consulted regarding the matter and both of us have requested a say. Anyway she was accused of planning to kill her in her sleep with no evidence to support the claim. Is there any legal action possible? I am also an RA. You might have an action for defamation of character if the accusation was public, untrue, and resulted in real harm to you (beyond just hurting your feelings, that is). See an attorney. I can't believe that it has gone this far!! Mediation for 2 months!! Those mediators must be thinking "why did I choose this profession?". |
