Harrassement and Mediation? |
My ex-husband's girlfriend has been harrassing me for several years, but I could never prove it. Finally, at the end of the summer, she started her hang-up calls from a phone number that did show up on my caller ID, and then she had creepy books that she bought on ebay sent to me anonymously ("The Last Eyewitness," "Telling Lies," "Invisible Prey," etc.) I was able to track down the ebay userID of the person who bought the books, and of course it was her daughter's name and birthdate! So I was finally able to file a complaint against her, and after months of delays, we had our first court date in December and were held over for trial, which was yesterday. The result of yesterday's "trial" was that we were sent to mediation. Now, maybe I don't have a firm grasp of what mediation is, but I always thought it was along the lines of: "You get the house and I get the car. You get the kids on weekdays and I get them on weekends." So what can I expect from mediation in a case like this? It's important to note that this woman and I don't have a relationship AT ALL. I haven't been in a room with her in more than 2 years, and we've never had a conversation. We don't live near each other or work near each other or have any of the same aquaintances. Except for the fact that she's dating my ex-husband, we are complete strangers. That's part of why I find mediation so odd. What is there to mediate?? mediation is basically court, but on a personal level... it can hold the same restrictions and requirements if nothing else comes of it maybe they will get her to stop harrassing you. you will probably be able to get a restraining order now. good luck |
