How can I find out what is legal and not legal when it comes to work ethics/ employer resp and duties?

Read your employee handbook, or discuss any specific question you may have with your HR representative.

Common sense is usually good 90% of the time, but the other 10% will depend on what specific rules/language are in your employee agreement/contract etc.
