What is the Landlord/Tenant law in New Jersey if the tenant gave you 2 bounced checks and hasnt yet paid it?


The law for a tenant that gave you two bad checks, one for a security deposit and one for rent and she still hasn't paid it and it has been three weeks, I gave her notice that It must be in my hands within 24 hours or I will void the lease.

SInce she has never paid, didn't she breach the contract (lease) anyways?

what about calling a lawyer for AN "initial consultation" (where you get to see him for 20 minutes and he'll hear your situation and answerr a couple querstions for you - for free. the purpose of an initial coinsultation is to see if you need to hire him or not..they dont mind if you end up getting help for no money..because later ypouy'll rememnber he helped you and hire him for something else. Thats how it works with lawyers.
Call one, and ask for "an initial consultation" (to see if you need his services or not). He'll understand, and talk to you gladly. A good lawyer wont try to make you hire him when you dont really need him yet...they know later you'll come back to the one who treated you right.

Not only did she breach the lease...she has violated NJ law. Willingly writing a bad check is a felony in NJ.

Tell her she has 24 hours to make good on the checks or you will be forced to press criminal charges against her.
