What can i do about slander?

what type of evidence do you need to file slander/libel suit against an old landlord? this ******* ***** is slandering my name because i moved out after a house fire. she told my roommate that she is a respectable person and that she can not believe that my roommate lowered her standards to be friends with me, or how anyone could be. she also is trying to blame wads of notebook paper that was flushed down the toilet on me while there is a 2 year old living there. she even slandered me to the new place i was moving into. NEVER has rent been late, never have i said a rude word to her until our house caught on fire and she wasnt going to give us our security deposites back. and even then i seriously kept my cool and told her how it was. she is telling people that i am a selfish dirty person because my dog peed under my bed and i had no idea. i had those carpets steam cleaned when i moved out. anyway what can i do, is it worth it, and what evidence do i need?

Witnesses and the more the merrier. I have the same problem right now from one of my employees. I now have the witnesses and all the proof I need to have him put away but I'm holding on to it for the right time and then I'm going to hit him with both barrels and it isn't going to be pretty.

You would have to prove that you incurred financial damages because of her slander and that the slander is untrue. You MIGHT be able to get punitive damages for hurt feelings, but they would be a small amount.

It's going to be difficult to prove your case because its essentially your word against hers.

I think the case would cost you far more than the award would be.

I'd leave it alone, if I were you.

If you have a variety of witnesses than you can probably get a good lawsuit against him and possibly win. It may be difficult though.

SUE BABY!
