Tenant and landlord issue? |
I gave my key to a Realty to rent my apartment. The applicant that they choose was not to my liking, so i told them to cancel the lease. To make a long story short, the lease was still submitted to the human resources administration (city program) , without my permission. While waiting for checks to be submitted, the broker allowed the tenant to enter the apartment and make physical changes (w/o ) my permission. The check are now available for rent, security and brokers fees-but I am not accepting them. Do I legally have to take this tenant? The broker was wrong in this case... Thanks. I am in NYC. The agent represents you and had no right to do this unless your reason for not accepting the applicant was based on something illegal like race, creed, religion, etc. Call the agent's managing broker, demand your keys back and call the state legislating agency to file a complaint. Do these things immediately and start taking pictures for trespassing and damage to the unit. I would go to the police station and make a report as well. Clearly state that the agent did not have your approval to give a key to this person and they illegally entered your unit and damaged it. |
