What do labor unions do?

What do labor unions do?

They negotiate contracts with employers. Wage, benefits, working conditions and how to fire people are included. Without them, usually companies do not offer contracts and you can be fired because your boss woke up in a bad mood.

It depends on the union you belong to. Some are stonger than others. Take the Plumbers & Pipefitter's where I live. They are very active in the community at large, by assisting wherever they are needed. On a weekly basis, they do some sort of repair work for free for the elderly. They also give thousands of dollars per month to charity. During the holidays, they give toys & food to needy people. Sure, they give to politicians, too. But, remember, these labor groups are the ones that brought you paid vacation time & days off for EVERYONE.

Make sure their workers get reasonable pay and reasonable work conditions. Basically, they make sure that big companies do not take advantage of their workers.

provide collective bargaining for employees.

- contract negotiations
- benefits negotiations
etc

it extends to health care plans which individually would have cost more.

Get Democrats elected to office.

Collect your dues every pay check and send them straight to candidates and causes you may not believe in.
