Labor Laws?? Can They Do This?

I work for a huge company out of Va and they have been working a lot of us to the point of breaking. for example. IF i worked from 1pm-10pm can they make me come back in at 5am? that is only 7 hours in between my shifts! please help me!

I thought it was against labor laws for me to have you come back in before your 8 hours they are required between shifts?

Nothing at the VA department of labor says you have grounds for a complaint if you are over 18 unless this violates a union or private contract

I'm afraid so and you owe it all to the good ol GOP ! Labor laws have been shifted to favors greedy businesses who want to work people to death while freezing wages, bust unions, make employees finance their own health care insurance and retirement plans and in doing so they are reaping record profits ! Workers rights have all but disappeared under the GOP !

An employer can now fire an employee if that employee is sick and the employer feels he or she has missed too much time from work !

And we wonder why America is slipping into the abyss !

A good friend of mine works at a food manufacturing plant where they actually make employees empty their pockets and conduct unauthorized locker searches. This goes on everyday !

There are lots of factors, are you hourly? salary? Are you driving for work? Most salary people are considered exempt employees which means they do not have to give you overtime and they can work you crazy hours. If you are hourly then anything over 40 hours a week should be overtime. Be aware that NO ONE can make you come back, it's all up to you but if those are the hours they want you to work and you want to keep your job (I dont see why you would) there is nothing stopping them from working you those hours. As long as you get your 15 min break every 3 hours and a 30 minute break after 4 hours. My opinion go to www.jobcentral.com and find yourself a new job.

As long as they pay you overtime for anything beyond 40 hours a week (if you're full time) and give you regular breaks (lunch and other breaks), they can schedule you to work as many hours as you'll put up with.

yes they can do that.
