Do labor laws still apply to me if I'm 18, but still in school? |
I'm 18 and a senior in high school currently. My job literally schedules me between 30 and 40 hours a week even though I'm still in school. Is this legal because I'm 18 even though I'm still in school? I just think it's ridiculous because I have homework and other stuff to do and dont have time when I'm working so many hours a week. state specific; but no law says you HAVE to work that many hours. It's legal for them to do so. You're over 18. Does your boss know that your still in school? I know of many other employers that will schedule around school. If the boss won't change the schedule, you need to get another job. This boss doesn't care if you get an education. No. You're no longer a minor, unfortunately your boss doesn't have to take into account that you're still in school. What your job is doing is illegal. Your school district allowed you to have a work permit that states that even if you are 18, you cannot legally work past 10pm on weeknights and over 25 hours. Stand up for your rights. The labor laws don't apply to you. If you can't handle the work, talk to your boss. If he doesn't work with you on it, quit. If you can't do the hours then don't do the job. And no they don't. You should maybe ask your employer to cut your hours..but no labor laws do not apply to you because you are an adult Welcome to the adult world. |
