Working on Labor Day means time and a half?

My boss asked me to come to work this Labor Day- I'm a part time employee and have some what agreed to come in.

My question however is does working on Labor Day entitle me to either time and a half or double pay?

I was told it did, but have also read that it's ultimately up to the employer to decide if they want to pay time and a half or double time- that however doesn't seem all too correct to me.

Any clarification would help. Thanks.

Up to Employer. It's sucky!

Do you work for the government?

But, there is no Federal "holiday pay law" that specifically entitles private-sector employees to receive paid holiday time off. In fact, there is no Federal law that requires private-sector employers to give employees time off for holidays, whether with or without holiday pay.

Of course, private-sector employers must pay employees for working on holidays. But, under Federal law, they don't have to pay overtime to eligible workers for holiday work, unless their total work hours exceed 40 in the same workweek.

It is not a holiday pay.
