Labor Laws for 16 year old in Texas?

My daughter has only been working three weeks and is closing a icream store alone. Because this is not the busy season one person open and one closes always alone. She is only 16 when I look up the labor law is only say 14 and 15 can not work alone or close after 9 My daughter was there untill 11 last night.

Okay, so what's your problem? 16 year olds can close by themselves. The only labor law for 16 and up is that they may not work over certain amount of hours a day and also a week.

In most cultures of the world, a sixteen year old is a full adult with property and independence, and is self-directed. Only a handful of societies create this artificial delay of maturity, and it's done as part of economic manipulation related to jobs and population functions. That aside, if your daughter does not like her job requirements, she shouldn't be in that job. Maybe babysitting until she's more mature?

May I suggest going on line to review not only the statutes but any administrative codes (they are different from law and are often more defining (restrictive)) Find out which Texas administrative Department handles labor.

You can also call you local representative and ask for assistance in this matter.

The problem is that if there are legal blocks to your daughter working those hours the owner may well fire her. Free market being what it is.

Always remember to tell her how impressed you are with her -- Alone and completely on her own she is running a business. If nothing else this may be an opportunity for her to establish self confidence and for you and her to share in that experience. (never a bad thing)
