Why do third world countries hire child labor?

Other than the obvious economic reasons - cheap labor - why do third world country factories such as Bangladesh garment factories hire child labor and get away with it with authorities and why is the local government not doing anything about it?

Second part of my question is what do you think would happen to the country's economy if somehow child labor was eliminated completely?

Last part of the question - what do you think should be the minimum age for factory work and why?

Well it will become like that in Western world soon.
So I wouldn't worry too much about the comparisons!

We have already started the trend by employing married/defacto women now for over 35 years.
So we are already employing down the chain from the married men only scenario in the 50s and 60s.
But the more available workers you allow, the lower bosses can afford to offer their wages, and still have employees that will work for that lower figure!!
Just like Law of Supply and Demand re price of purchasing Commodity Market's goods and services ... so, too, the Law of Supply and demand re the size of the available Labour market!
Something that is RARE is worth its price, but once you make anything plentiful and easy to access, you cheapen it, and in the case of labour, it is offered lower wages.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT KEYS TO THE WEST'S LONGSTANDING ECONOMIC AND HEAVY UNEMPLOYMENT WOES THAT THE ECONOMISTS AND "BRAINS TRUSTS" OF THE WORLD HAVE NEVER QUITE SEEMED TO REALLY GET THEIR TEETH AROUND NOW FOR DECADES!!
Yet, really, it has been like 'missing the Wood for the trees'!!!

We are making our countries 'Third World' in many ways.
It WILL happen as we continue our current social and irreligious trends.
In genuine cases, be it Third world or Western, the father alone is not able to earn sufficiently for their large family, and he needs further family assistance due to the lower wage offered to the father; but in most cases, in smaller families, greed for the yacht, 3rd family vehicle, extra TV and swimming pool etc drives out the extra family members into the workforce, and we finish up with other families missing out on the limited employment/jobs.

NOW, ACCORDINGLY, YOU ASK:
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF CHILD LABOR STOPPED?

Well, as we've discussed, there would be a very, very DESPERATE labor shortage!

Now, why is it [we've said] that are diamonds so Precious and expensive?

ANSWER: Because they are so RARE!
RARITY puts the costt of anything up!

If the Child labor was eliminated, the cost of Labour [wages] would suddenly SKY-ROCKET!!!!!!!!!

Fathers would be able to keep their families on their wages!

Now let's see the West do something about their cheapening of our labour here by eliminating married/defacto women from the Work Force!!!

the families need to eat

Why are so many kids in trouble here (USA)? In part b/c they have too much idle time when they should be working. Minimum wage & minimum age laws have a downside; making many unemployable.

America hire child labor too.Why do you criticize the third world countries???

The third worls countries do have cheap labour but the thing is these countries are growing economically but there are many on the poverty line , people who cannot afford 2 meals a day so they have no choice but to employ their children somewhere at a very early age

As a resident of third world country my view is child labour is coz. of economic difference between poor and rich. As a human being i earnesly want that child labour should stop. And the government of the respeictive countries should take care the child labour to provide basic needs of the childs. But the rate of population is growing day by day. So it is also difficult to the government to provide all the basic facilities.

The minimum age of a labour should be 18.

And i read the others answers about child labour in America, the super power of the world. I feel shame also coz. it is not expected from America. And honestly this is first time i know that American employers also hire child labour. So I request you pls. raise voice against America also. Thank you.

First of all I want to correct you that bangladesh garment factories do not hire child labour but other industries like motor vehicle workshop, welding workshop, mechanical fitting workshop, small manufacturing factory even in the shops and houses randomly hire child labour.
Most of these children's parents can't afford their food let alone education.
Parents bring their kids to the worksop only to work for food in bengali it called pete vate and those children are better known as a pichhi Now if you stop them to work where they will get the food and cloth from I was a mechanic there I always feel for those pichhis but because of corruption and insecurity can do nothing and also I offer you to go to dhaka and talk with the couple of pichhis personally and meet their parents you will found that both of them are proud of themselves.
Another issue is OH&S 98% of the industries do not maintain occupational health and safety standard and those kids are working there.
With these kids there are hips of success stories infront of them like work in supirior position and become a workshop owner and they dreamt that.
Another reason is school can not keep them because of an uneffective and unattractive curriculam and teachers beating habbit.
Gov authorities are so corrupt that it's beyond your imagination besides it's a social problem gov can do nothing about it.

For your secondpart if somehow child labor was eliminated completely it would not effect country's economy at all but it would create other various social problem like stealing ,hijacking, robbery, killing, and some them would become private killer and some of them would become suicidebomber cause they will pay lot than you and me.

Before finishing don't mix two things togethar child labour and garments industry.
Most of the bangladeshi garment's factories employ women because children's are not suitable and perfect like women
I don't know where you get this theory that bangladeshi garment's industry employ children
I think you have read a corrupt journalist's report.

The parents just want more money to feed their families--sadly if these countries paid the parents more money then their children wouldn't have to work. The factories know that families need to eat and know they can get away with paying children half of what adults charge. The economy ,well I don't care about their economy---what about those poor kids made to work when they aren't even 4ft tall!I think our labor laws here are okay-15yrs old with a work permit.Maybe 13 or 14 ,parttime,if the parents really need the money.

they do have a legal thing about it. but yes sometimes it is illegal. but you said it yourself, third world nations?! they are what we call underdeveloped country. most of them are poor. other than that there are also other things like health problems, diseases. usually, in one family, there would surely be one or two who is sick and usually it would be the parents. other than that these kids could be orphaned. they need the work to survive. we spend more on wars than in helping these poor people. that is why we have the issue of child labour. we can't entirely blame their local government or authorities cause think about it, are we even helping them??
