State and Federal Labor Laws?? I'm confused? |
What is the difference is the Federal Labor Law goes into effect tomorrow for 5.58 (or whatever it is) and the State Labor Law is like 6 something (that should have started July 1st) what would a employer have to pay the Federal or the State?? Employer pays which ever wage is higher. If you are talking about minimum wage laws, the federal law states that someone cannot be paid less than $5.85 per hour. Federal wins They have to pay whichever is higher..the federal or the state. Federal minimum wage is based on nationwide figures. States can look at more regional info and use that to decide if the federal amount is generally insufficent and opt to pay a higher wage. |
