How do you ask for more money for a service that ended up taking more labor? |
job was estimated to take around 8 hours - more labor was involved and needed 15 hours to be accomplished. How to mention that in a polite way without directly asking for more money. Refer to the "weasel clause" in the invoice or the estimate that calls into play what you will do if the estimate is more than expected; and follow that. IF you have no provision to correct the estimate, bill the amount of labor used and wait for them to scream; and work it out. It depends on why the job took longer. If you underestimated, or you mismanaged the job, then you are probably s.o.l. If it was in the hands of the client, then yo can ask for more money. Depends on how the contract was written. Many have a clause for work that could not have been foreseen in the estimate. If it was merely a mistake on your part or the fault of your workers, you will have a problem. did you bid the job as an hourly contract or did you bid the job as one price for the whole job and did you explain to them in the beginning there could possibly complications and it might end up costing more did you stop and show them the reason why it took an extra 7 hours or is it because you did not allow your self enough time to finish the job. if the customer was supposed to pay you on an hourly basis then explain to them what the problem was and why it is going to cost them more money you are there to make money that's why you are working and they are there to safe money so they are not going to pay you unless you ask |
