What labor law says about closed shop?

What labor law says about closed shop?

It depends on which state you live in. Federal labor law only covers federal job sites, everything else is based on state law.

Some states allow closed shops, others don't. Even in states that allow closed shops you can cite Beck vs. Communications Workers of America and demand that only money used for collective bargaining be taken from you. The Supreme Court has ruled that unions can't take, by force, money for political activities.

Doesn't that mean you cannot work there unless you belong to the union?

In our place, the labor law does not have any provisions about closed shop agreements. However, it allows it unless all the parties involve agreed to be governed by said agreement.

In labor, what prevails is the agreement of the parties (employer and employees) so long as the agreement is not in conflict with the constitution, laws, public policy or public order, nothing can stop them from implimenting it.

Check you state to determine if it is a "right to work" state, whereby you do not have to be a dues paying member to work.

Not sure...I would consult a lawyer. Then then can answer your question as well as any other questions that may arise,
