Child labor laws?

I'm 14 years old and i want a job. Is it legal? I live in Texas if that helps. I mostly hear that you have to be 15 but id like a second opinion.

is there a type of place that would hire me? mcdonalds, grocery store?

Yes, it is legal to work in Texas at 14 years of age or older.

Keep in mind that a child 14 or 15 years of age has significant hours restrictions under the law. Also, the kinds of jobs you can work are limited, and certain jobs (e.g., hazardous jobs) are expressly prohibited. However, as long as you work a permitted job under the law and within the regulated hours, I am not aware of any permit you need to work.

More detailed information regarding the number of hours you can work and the types of jobs you can work are provided in the link below.

Yes you can, all you do is go to your school office and obtain a workers permit. Talk to the office about it and they'll set you up.

Edit: I am not sure about those, because I heard they require a GED or high school diploma. But you could always work community service and also have the benifit of being paid. For example, I worked at a preschool at age 14, It was community service but at the same time i was being paid. I am sure offices could hire you to sorta out papers. You can always walk dogs or help out at place. Good luck
