Do I need to disclose an underage drinking ticket when applying for a professional counselor license in WI? |
This happened many years ago; not sure if I need to disclose this since it would only appear on my juvenile record. I have no record as an adult. *** Most juvenile records are destroyed or expunged when that person turns 18. Even if it is still on your record, being a juvenile offense, it does not need to be declared. If your employer asks you specifically if you had a juvenile record, it is under your discretion to admit to it or not, but do note, you are not under any legal obligation to divulge this information. Juvenile records are always sealed at 18, (except for possibly someone who became a serial killer!)*** An underaged drinking ticket is a civil violation. Many times it is a municipal ordinance violation. It is not a misdemeanor because jail time is not a possible penalty. Whether you must disclose it on your application depends upon what is the question. If the question is whether you have ever been convicted of a crime then the answer is "no". On the other hand, if the question is whether you have ever been convicted of an ordinance violation, or of an alcohol-related offense, then the answer is yes. I would not really worry too much about disclosing an underaged drinking ticket. I have never heard of this preventing a person from being licensed. This is a misdeamenor charge usually felony charges are all employers are looking for and if the was on your juvenile record it should not show up |
