When does your juvenile record clear?

I have one felony on my juvenile record in Florida. Everything I've read so far says it clears away when you turn 18, sometimes 17 ( I was 17 at the time it happened) Now I know for a fact that this is not true since I had applied for a new job when I was 19 and this case came up on their background report. As I near finishing my degree I am curious as to what my future employers will still be privvy to as far as my records go.

Depends. I know, BS answer. But, it's the best possible answer. It depends on the original judgement. It depends on the charge. It depends on how old you were when you were convicted. And, it depends on whether you petitioned the court to expunge your juvenile record.

Problems is that your arrest record will always be there.

A common misconception is that juvenile records "go away." They don't! Juvenile records are "sealed" and not made a part of an adult record but still accessable by the courts, district attorneys offices, and law enforcement.

I'm not certain where this prospective employer obtained your "background" report but I'd consider going to the company and inquire as to where the information was received.

They may not be obligated to provide you with the information but the judicial court of records where the juvenile case was held would be able to provide you with more information.
