Should a 12 yr old be placed on probation for half mooning kids at school?

12 yrs old and in sixth grade: It started as an accident first thing in the morning ...His pants fell down also pulling down his boxers. Since all of the other kids thought it was soo hilarious he decided to be the class clown and have the same accident in homeroom, and it was all caught on tape... Only the top portion of his buttocks were exposed but the principle is pressing charges for lewd behavior and the police have turned it over to juvenile probation and bound over for court!!! Not to mention 10 days out of school suspension!!! Do you think this is too harsh...he would have gotten less charges and time for a fist fight!!!

That's absolutely ridiculous, what a frivolous waste of time.

If only schools took education as seriously as they take all these 'crimes'...

Does this story not sound odd? 'His pants fell down also pulling down his boxers'? How tight were these pants to have such a grip on his boxers? 'All of the other kids' were there? So this wasn't a quiet accident in the boys bathroom. And he decided to do it again, and, gee, there just happened to be a video tape there? I suspect that your son has made a bit of a hobby of being class clown and the principal had enough. He's 12! - old enough to know better, and probably old enough to try a little lewd behaviour for the shock value. You weren't there - who said it was only the top of his buttocks? If it was pants and boxers, more than just the top of his buttocks might be showing.

I think nowadays schools feel like they have to step in and be disciplinarians as more parents are lacking in this area. Probation is way harsh, though, especially for a kid so young. If I were the judge I would consider the kid's age, his past behavior and the kind of parenting he's getting.

I think a 10 day out of school is a little harsh. I guess its all for the better,if he was more lenient the kid probaly won't learn anything from it and it will only get worse. Your principal sounds like a real strict guy to be pressing charges. I would have him write a letter of apology to the principal, saying it was immature and hes very sorry, offer to help out around the school or something if he doesn't get the police involved.

it is definetely a little too harsh. He never hurt anybody in any way, nor did he commit a serious crime. Kids at my high school get caught smoking pot, and fighting and still get a lesser punishment. This is definetely unjust.

I think the principal had taken to much of a drastic measure. They shouldn't of taken the kid to jail. That was to harsh maybe just school suspension because in the rules it is against the law and you could get in really big trouble but like I said that was to harsh.

that is a little extreme. the only realy harm is distracting other students but nothing too bad like giving them drugs and what not. the principal should just give a him a good talk. going to court over a boy's skin being alittle exposed is nonsense.

absolutly not!

last year my brother mooned me and the girls @ v-ball practice and my coaches/ teachers saw him. he was running track at the time so his coach just made him run the whole practice its not that big. teachers just need 2 cool their jets! and he was and 8th grader at the time. i think you and some of your clase mates should go and talk 2 the princible about this tell him it should not have gotton this far. last year when i was in 6th grade kids did some stupid stuff its just part of growing up and ask your princible this "when he was younger what does he regret" plus this is a 12 YEAR OLD BOY! they like to show off

i think that kids are being treated to hard in skool these days...its too harsh
