Should Juveniles be sentenced as adults? |
Im doing a speech on this topic anybody know where i can get info on this http://www.jcpr.org/wpfiles/Steinberg_br... sometimes We do it in CA. It's a disaster. They get raped and trained to be the worse kinds of criminals in the penitentiary and their young enough so when they get out the commit the most heinous of crimes. It's a terrible idea unless you're putting them in for life. Personally, I think if you are "adult" enough to commit the crime, you need to be tried as an adult. Yes, if it can be demonstrated that their offense was premeditated, malicious, and that their level of maturity was sufficient to allow them to fully understand the wrongfulness of their actions. To me I dont think its right that teens can legally be tried for murder as an "adult" when they are 18 but they cant buy beer??? To me this seems extremely inconsistant. Why the age difference? We can be tried as an adult, we can gamble, we can smoke etc but we cant drink. Now I'm not for going out and getting drunk by what makes one thing ok while another is not? To answer your real question no i dont think juvies should be tried as adults because in all honesty we dnt have the experience and knowledge that only age can give a person. maybe just maybe if the parents could discipline there children without fear of being arrested we wouldn't need to worry about trying them as adults |
