It sounds like foreign investment in the U.S. is coming to a halt? Now what?

U.S. treasury bonds are getting harder to come by. The Port Authority in New York can't find anyone to buy their debt. Several Universities meeting with the same problem. Where will the U.S. get the money to continue? This is a result of the housing debacle. We have caused them to loose tons of money.

No. This is the result of George Bush refusing to raise taxes for the war and using the Chinese to buy US Treasury Bills to the tune of over 1/2 Trillion dollars. You don't buy on credit without being honest about that you have to pay it back with interest.

As for the housing "debacle" the federal government has power to regulate loans and stop VARs but it refused to act responsibly and allowed banks to sell mortgages with unsustaiably low rates of interest. The people who bought those mortgages carry some of the blame. But, a responsible government does not invite economic train wrecks.

You have painted a perfect picture of why a responsible governement enacts sensible regulations and enforces them. If you are going to have a war then you raise taxes to pay for the war.

Now, Bush goes home to Crawford to count his money and the middle class and the poor suffer.

Now we suffer a recession and the lowly pay for the sins of the high. Higher taxes is where the government gets the money to continue. The question is the rich who profited pay for the party or those who got no benifit from it pay?

The lesson is that good government looks to protect the interests of its citizens, not its corporate sponsors.

BTW: Who are the "We" you refer too. Do they live next door to the "Some people say. . ."

Don't you dare blame me, I voted for democrats. I marched against the war. Did you think the party would go on forever and nobody would every have to pay?

Where'd you get that??? US Treasury Bonds are freely available and are of high enough quality that the 30 year bond pays around 4.5%. It's considered the safest investment in the world. Turn off CNN for a bit.

We *Americans* have been living way above our means for a long time. We might have to take our medicine for a while, until we learn to manage our finances a little better. It might mean that welfare recepiants might have to work, regardless of their health or what ever. Thats the way it used to be. Atleast the illegal immigrant thing might take care of its self. People might have to stop eating out three meals a day and remember how that kitchen stove works. Teenagers might actually have to start working after school again for what ever they can get. I hauled hay for 5 cents a bale and hauled watermellons for $20 a day because I wanted to work, and there wasnt much else to do. American might have to toughen up and make due with a little less. We'll still be the greatest nation on earth, and people will still risk death to come here.
