Who owns the intellectual property rights to posts you put on an internet forum?

is it the poster or the owner of the forum.

The copyright law provides that the creator of the work--i.e., the person who wrote the post or the letter--owns the copyright. This right attaches the moment the work is created 17 USC 102. The blog creaor has a license to display the derivative work, i.e., the blog or forum, but has no copyright in the contributed work. 17 USC 103.

These rules apply in virtually every country on earth thanks to the Berne Convention.

I'm not sure if i understand what you mean but i could imagine that anything you put on an internet forum belongs to the owners of the forum...

Internet has grown beyond any country laws.At present material posted in internet are not subject to IPR unless it is mentioned that the material is subject to copyright act/rules.

The owner of the forum or blog. It is the same as an e-mail or letter sent through the post. Once you send it, it becomes the property of the receiver.

At least in the U.S. this is well settled law.

In UK law it's the author, i.e. the person who writes the answer (so long as the person who wrote the answer hasn't stolen it from somewhere else...).

Bruver

I wouldn't worry about this with regard to Y!A. There's precious little posted here that anyone would class as intellectual property.
