What about the Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights(TRIPs)? Are not they pirated by Traders?

What about the Trade Related Intellectual Property Rights(TRIPs)? Are not they pirated by Traders?

Of course they are. I work in patents and certain parts of Asia are notorious for violating IP rights, however India is not the worst by a long way. In one country there was and possibly still is a factory pumping out fake American four wheel drive cars.

The Americans complain about it a lot but they used to do it themselves in the 19th century. A lot.

The biggest problem in this is fake drugs.

It often seems as though they are.

The TRIPS agreement is part of the WTO agreement. It includes literary, dramatic, musical, artististic and other IP related propeties.

Several laws exist in India to protect IPR such as Copyright Act, Trade Marks Act, Protection of Plant Varieties Act, Designs Act, Patents Act etc.

Violation of IPR by any one who is a trader or a non-trader is a punishable offence which carries severe penalty and also imprisonment.
