How can I protect myself from people who claim I've plagiarized them? |
I have posted many poems and stories that I've written on my 360 page. I received a message from someone claiming that I stole several of my poems from her and just rearranged the words. I have not done anything like that. What do I do to protect myself and my intellectual property? The only way, really, is to register it with the US copyright office. It costs you money but it does protect your rights. Especially if you are going to offer it up on the internet where anyone can copy it and pass it off as their own. A self copyright shows that you are claiming it to be your original material, but if things came down to a court challenge, it only goes so far, because it does not really establish when you wrote it. Report It Apply for copyright status for the material. |
