What is the UN's view on copyright infringement?

Does anyone know what the UN feels about intellectual property rights? (Copyright infringement, etc)

many thanks

The UN hasn't any view. It's a UN agency, WIPO, the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, that has. See: http://www.wipo.int/copyright/en/

"Copyright and related rights are legal concepts and instruments which, while respecting and protecting the rights of creators in their works, also contribute to the cultural and economic development of nations. Copyright law fulfills a decisive role in articulating the contributions and rights of the different stakeholders taking part in the cultural industries and the relation between them and the public.

"WIPO, through its Copyright and Related Rights Sector, is committed to that crucial role."

Are you asking about the Berne Convention?

More detail at Wiki

As one who has a lot of associates internationally, I think for the most part in practice, we have similar feelings to respect the work of others or at least as Fair Use, to attribute an item to the correct source. It's pretty foggy out there tho, no?

They would have to convene the security council. Then, unless one of the members vetoes it, they would send peace keepers to the site of the offense. However, the French and the Germans are not likely to go with the US unless there is something in it for them. Bush would probably come up with some story about Weapons of Mass Copyright Infringement.

Sorry. I have no idea. Good luck.
