HELP!!! stolen car!!!?

My on-off boyfriend of 4 years has stolen my car---needless to say i'm completely done with him relationship wise at this point- he stole it while he was over my house "taking care of me" while i was sick--which he was doing a very poor job of anyhow, he was in possession of the keys at my surrender so that he could go to the store as needed to purchase me medicine and supplies. he took off saturday night between 7pm and 11pm while i was asleep- i have called him numerous times his cell phone has been on but he is simply not answering my phone calls. he has previously done this in the past but only recently for a few hours and always returned with my car its probably been a year since he's pulled this over 24 hour thing where he steals my car then brings it back with some crazy excuse while failing to return any of my phone calls in the process. i believe that he is an undiagnosed sociopath. there is no issue on whether or not i need to break up with him or not---i realize that there is no room for someone like him in my life who continues to hurt me so maliciously-- i just need advice on what to do. the car is registered in my fathers name--i am 20 years old....i live in boston and my parents live in new hampshire- i know the license plate number but i dont know if i need my father's permission to report it as stolen or not in which case my father is probably going to take the car away from me when and if i get it back (although i pay for it completely, its registered in his name for insurance benefits) but my father is a control freak and will deem me irresponsible for even letting him within arms reach of my car keys--which i was but i have been sick and desperate for someone to help take care of me as i have barely been able to leave my bed the last few days. anyhow do you know if i can report it stolen without his permission? should i report it stolen or should i just wait for him to bring it back? i'm starting to freak out a little, knowing that he has a lot of very shady ghetto friends who would probably sell him out in a second to steal my car from him and even just sell it for parts. the last time i called him was about an hour ago and his phone is completely off. the other thing i was considering was going to his house later today and seeing if my car was parked on his street--then calling the cops if it was there because i know he would not answer the door for me. also- does anyone know if i report it stolen and its recovered from him what are my legal rights? can i sue him? can i put a restraining order on him based on that? he's in the military will he get in trouble in the military for being caught stealing a car? and is it still considered stealing when i willingly gave him possession of my car keys although he did not have my permission to take the car when he did and for as long as he did or is it based on whether or not my father---the actual owner of the car gave him permission to use it or not? please i hope someone can give me some advice on what to do. thanks

Report it stolen. He had limited access to the car and he was not given permission to take it away. Let your father know and he can join in the report. You had control of the car, even though registered to your father. Make the report first, then go to his house. If you see the car, call them again. That will let the old b'friend know it is over, and he can't just do what he wants. Sooner, is better than later.

You don't need your fathers permission to report the car stolen, but if you do, and the police retrieve the car, only your father will be able to get it back from them. If he's done this before, I would wait and see if he comes back. Then get your keys and never let this guy near you, your car or your keys again.

Report the vehicle as stolen to the nearest law enforcement office as soon as possible!
Your 20? Your an adult!

Watch it with that fruitcake bf of yours. He could come back at you for doing this. If he does, have him locked up.

Anytime a vehicle that the legal owner has allowed another to drive it the person who is using the car has the right to call it in stolen. The police want to know about a stolen car for the public's safety. As to him having the keys you did not give him the keys he STOLE them from you. He is operating a vehicle you have permission from the owner to drive HE does NOT have permission from you. Call it in right away. ANY accidents or parking tickets the car gets involved in is your fathers responsibility. This could be in the 10's of thousands of dollars. You simply MUST report the car stolen to protect yourself and your father. Yes if/when you ex or current boyfriend gets caught driving it he will be convicted.

i would call the cops and report it stolen. leave this guy alone because this is his way to control you and you can't seem to let go of him.
