How can I get out of paying my citation?

I got a citation today because my muffler broke off. unfortunately the car is my uncles and he is loaning it to me until my car gets fixed. i have insurance on the car but accidentally left my proof at home. now i have a court date i have to appear at or i can pay a fine and i wont have to go to court. i was told that if i show up to court there is a chance that i can get out of paying the fine and everything.however, the police department i was pulled over by is infamous in our area for pulling people over and handing out tickets even for a minor traffic violation. i want to know if there is anyway i can get out of this citation without paying any fines or going to court at all.

If you were operating the vehicle, you are held responsible for making sure it is "street-legal", meaning all documentation is present, and all equipment is functional.
In most jurisdictions, if you take proof of insurance to court, the Uninsured MV citation will be dropped. As for any ticket for the muffler, you are responsible to pay. Maybe your uncle will be nice and reimburse you for this, since it is his car.

Well it don't matter to the cops that they car was borrowed you were the one driving it so your the one thats being charged.. you can more than likely take proof of the insurance to the car to court, and see what the judge says, but if you loose in court you'll have to pay alot more than just a muffler.. so you weigh the difference between them and you deicide.. good luck!

Go to court and show proof of insurance and that will charge will be dismissed. As far as the 'infamous' cop - the laws are there for a reason. Don't break them. It's his job to make sure that the laws are followed Don't be mad at him,be mad at yourself.
