How are burial expenses covered when there isn't enough money in the deceased savings account?

Should it come out of the life insurance policy or what?

it is up to the nearest living relative, or the executor of the will, if there is one.

i feel a need to be clear here - no one buries the deceased until someone ( usually a relative) sets it up, picks a burial plot, a casket, or some other way of handling the body/burial.

there really isn't a place where it "should" come out of, unless the deceased has pre-paid, or unless there is a burial policy or something similar.

that person signs a contract, and is then liable to pay the cost if there is not enough money in the estate or insurance.

If she has life insurance, then pay for the burial expenses out of that. Most funeral directors will work with families if the majority of expenses can be covered with insurance. They will talk to the family about setting up a payment schedule for the remaining balance if there is one.

DO NOT get sucked into buying a more expensive funeral than your family and the insurance can afford. Very nice funerals can be accomplished within a reasonable budget.

I'm sorry for your loss,

Tex

They will come from the assets of the estate which can be a bit rough when someone is left a house ad that is the only asset along with the furniture.
As an aside if the deceased is bankrupt his funeral expenses are a privilaged debt and rank before morgages etc.

If they have one yes and it will, or if there is an estate beyond the savings account and if none of the above then they try to get it from the family and if that doesn't work the government takes care of it...or rather taxpayers.

It depends. When my mother died, she had nothing. No insurance, nothing, well lots of debt. Social security paid for her cremation. If there is insurance, then yes, that could be one way to pay for it. Or the family could pitch in and pay.

In regard to the life insurance policy who ever is named on the contract gets the monies outside probate and it up to them if they should help pay for the funeral, morally should they spends some cash sure, legally I do not believe so

If there is a will and an executor, should be done by the estate from the assets of the estate. If not, common sense says the life insurance should go toward a burial/cremation.
