Why would a officer ask you to sit in his car for a minor traffic violation?

I was pulled over in a parking lot for failure to signal lane change. I gave officer driver license, registration, and insurance. Before he looked at anything I was ask out of the car patted down and asked to sit in his car.Why all of this for minor traffic violation?

some officers just prefer to have their contacts sit with them in the squad. it is really officer preference more than anything (for officer safety reasons) traffic stops have been responsible for several law enforcement deaths and assaults. keep in mind serial killer Ted Bundy was caught because he had a brake light out.

For your saftey the officers safety and the fact that if you did not like the accusations you can drive off in your car. They want to speak to you and it can be a pain in the **** but there are people who if a policeman is in the car drive off. If the driver is in the back of the police car this cannot happen. Its easier just to get it over with if your co-opertive it should take a matter of minutes.

How does the officer know that you have not done anything else wrong before and are wanted unless he has you securely sitting in the back of his car there is chance you make a run for it? So in order to avoid this scenario and possibly sometime a lot of people gather round to see what is happening. the officer does not want a minor thing turning into major. As we know there is people who take exception to police, by way of abusing them why don`t you and get the real criminal`s like killers and gun crime etc. hope it helps. Thanks for reading this answer.

It could be one of several reasons. Was it a busy highway and if it was the officer may of feared standing by your window explaining the ticket he was going to issue you. I have done the same thing when I was a law enforcement officer. Having had people drive off while I was sitting in my car writing the ticket and having to chase them is not fun believe me. My department stopped us from asking citizens to sit in our cruisers so I never did it again. However I can see several reason why he might have ask you to sit in his cruiser. Hope my answer helped...........Good Luck..............

because with all that is going on in the world today an the officer being alone was only being safe. he did not know you as you him . for all he knew you could be a mass felon, so manytimes have they pulled oversomeone in one state an not got anything over the radio that the person they had pulled over was wanted in another state. after 911 it is the only thing to expect anymore.

Lots of reason,
You could have seemed overly nervous.
Your vehicle could have matched the discription of one used in a crime.
If you are young he could have wanted to scare you a little to be a better driver.

Too hot
Too cold
Traffic Safety reasons
Reasons they didn't want to disclose

Why do you think?

im guessing he is new to the force or he was just bored and looked at you as an easy target.

Love Canada and Chris are right !
