Do I pay these bills? |
In NH, I was court ordered to provide medical insurance for my son and I take care of that, however according to court documents my son is with his mother and lives with here most of the time. She just called me saying she is going to Foward the medical bills to me so I can pay them? Is this how it works? Or do I only take care of the medical insurance? These are bills not covered by insurance. No claim forms are needed. I would think that you would pay 50% but check you court records. you are obligated to furnish the medical insurance per court order, as the primary caretaker she is should have all the insurance information and should inform the clinic or physician providing the care of the insurance company name phone number and pertinent information in order for them to bill them. there might be a deductible you might have to pay that but the main portion of the bill should go to the insurance company. at least that have been my experience nationwide By any chance does it state that you are both responsible for any unpaid medical expenses? If so, I would pay half of the bill and send the payment directly to the Dr's office/billing company. After reading your question again, I would call the Dr's office and give them the insurance info or fax a copy of the card to them. It depends on your child support order. Generally courts have 1 parent responsible for medical insurance and whatever isn't paid by insurance, both parents pay 50%. Check your order! If he is living with you most of the time, maybe it's time to go back to court to have the order amended. You are responsible for the childs medical bills. She should be advising the Doctor of who your insurance is with. You may be able to get a card for her to submit when medical care is given. Submit the bills to your insurance company. They should have been filed at time of service.I assume you gave her an insurance card for the child. If services were not filed then when she sends the bill you will have to file with your carrier. If your talking about co-pay that depends on your court order. |
