Sue for embarrasement and neglect?

So, i went into the Doctors today and they denied me because I didn't have 122.00 up front and I don't have insurance until the 31st.

Anyway, the receptionist (what a *****) said it so loud, I was so embarrased and I started crying and left....I'm still crying.

I just needed blood work done for my thyroid because i feel like im being chocked

The workers at most doctor offices are a bunch of f*ing morons. My sister needed a shot for school. (She's in school to become a registered nurse). Anyway, she called up and the receptionist checked the schedules of each doctor, one-by one, for that day.

It went along the lines of "Dr. G....no he's not available until Monday. Dr. S....no she's not available until next Friday. Dr. M.....no he's on vacation". So my sister was like "SO.....you're saying NOBODY has availabilities for today?" She could've just said that there were no availabilities that day. Then the receptionist asked what she needed done, to which my sister replied that she needed a special shot. The receptionist was like "YOU have WHAT??" Moron. Then miraculously she said that there was an opening at 4pm, which my sis couldn't do.

She hung up, called back again and got another receptionist. Surprisingly all the doctors were available at the time she specifically requested.

I know that it doesn't take much to be a receptionist, but that title should require a degree of some sort. I mean, time is money and this woman certainly wasted my sister's time. She almost lost business for their office. My sister was about to go to a Med Center.

the doctors office has a right to deny treatment if you can't pay up front. the doctors office should have told you that up front before you even scheduled your appointment.

please do me a favor. make an appointment for 6-31-08 with a different doctors office and forget about the nasty lady from the other doctors office. Some people are just mean and nasty and don't deserve a second thought.

in the meantime, if your health worsens, do to the emergency room and get treatment. you can make payments toward your bill if need be. your health is more important.

its not neglect and its only embarrassing because you let it embarrass you. The people in the doctor's office don't know who you are and you will probably never see them again, so don't let it get to you.

if whatever problem you have is serious, go to an ER. if not, it wont hurt to wait until you get your insurance.

dont let other people get you down.

Ha lol sorry but you can't sue for that you don't have insurance so they have every right to deny you service if you do not have the money to pay unless your life was in danger. If your life was in danger and you needed medical attention ASAP and they denied you then you could potentially sue but not just for like a check up

. So sorry to hear of the Crass /Cold Way you were handled and yes you can do something about it. Call the Medical ***.
for your area. Start with BBB /chamber of commerce. Call the hospital the Doctor practices with-.Privacy Laws forbid the staff from allowing anyone to overhear(see/ or otherwise Know) your medical /financial business.Be sure to cry a little when you talk to the BBB as they are grassroots folks and there to serve YOU.Get all the NAMES of offending parties.
Record your complaint to voice/and paper now white you remember the details, play it back/read it and extend the facts like how far the voices could be heard and WHO was with in ear shot of the Conversation.Include other staff members. You may have an OMBUDSMAN in state government call the area nursing homes for such information.
Out side of RUDE and insensitive it is not within their job description to humiliate less fortunate people

You know, every little thing that happens to you that you don't like doesn't transform into payday. Common sense is to take money with you when you go to the doctor, the receptionist said it loud so other people would get the message. Suck itup, and stop being sue-happy. People like you are what's wrong with the world. Ooops, I embarrased you, I'd better go get an attorney!

srry to hear about this...it's very unusual for a professional office to act un-professionally.

I would dry up ur tears and go back to the office, tell the receptionist, very calmly, not loudly, and looking her in the eyes, I AM NOT A *****.

may i see the doctor for just a few minutes?

Side notes....u should look at ur insur policy to see when it takes effect, usually its 6 months after u sign up for it.

Can't sue for embarrassment in a docs office unless u have a recording of some kind to prove, but see if u can get a free consultation by a lawyer for small claims court to represent urself.

You can sue for anything. I don't know that it would be worth your time or trouble - you wouldn't "win" anything. Maybe the insensitive ***** is used to dealing with old, deaf people and didn't realize she was broadcasting your business to the whole waiting room.

well you should just go back when you have new insurance, then maybe you should even change doctors. You should not sue, but you could talk to the receptionists boss and tell him/her about what happened and then they can see to the situation as they see fit.

no, sorry you cannot sue for embarrassment and technically it's not neglect because your condition was not life threatening.

sorry, just ignore her. she's probably miserable in her life anyways.

Umm i do not think you can sue for that, I would just wait until you have insurance. You might want to find a new doctor as well.

you could file a complaint with the American medical Association, and with your local county.I wouldnt sue,its not a strong case.

they have the right to deny service if you cannot pay and are not covered by insurance. they were simply covering their asses in case something went wrong (i.e - wrong meds etc)

No you can't sue them. If you don't have insurance, you should have found out the fees before even scheduling an appt.

yes you can sue embarrassment emotional trauma

You have no case. "Embarassment" is not tangible damages.

sorry that happened
but you dont have a case. unfortunetly its very legal.

You're so embarrassed, you're posting this on the internet to millions of people?

You didn't have insurance. I would get over it if I were you.

A doctor is not like an emergency room, they can refuse treatment if you are not able to pay. As for the receptionist, she should have been a little more discreet. About the only recourse you have there is calling and trying to talk to the office manager or doctor about how she treated you or writing a letter to the doctor. You can't sue over embarrassment.
How long have you had the appointment? Their policy about payment might have changed since then. All the doctors offices here have signs that payment expected before services rendered. But in some cases, if you had called and talked to the office manager before the appointment, you might have been able to work out a payment plan. But I am with some of the other posters, when your insurance kicks in, go somewhere else if you can. Also you say your insurance kicks in the 31st, is that next month? Cause there are only 30 days this month.
