Dentist overcharged me by $700?

I had my wisdom teeth removed at a University medical center in March 08. I had a consultation back in October 07. After the consultation I was given an estimate of 347.50 included with my insurance so I set up an appt to have the procedure done. I called numerous times between that time to verify the price and was told every time that it was the correct price I would have to pay.
They also told me that full amount of 347.50 would have to be paid prior to having the surgery done. So the surgery date comes and 30 minutes before I go to the office I call them to verify the price one more time and they said it was correct.
A week later I have issues with the surgery site so I go in to get checked. While on the phone they tell me they gave me the wrong price and I owe $1,095.
They claim the $347.50 was the amt my insurance would pay not the amt I was to pay out of pocket. How do you make that mistake OVER & OVER again?
Can I sue them?

They gave me NOTHING IN writing. The only print out that they apparently give patients is what to do before getting the surgery done. The lady wrote the amt down but I dont think its credibe. It was written by hand, no signature, no nothing. After I found out about this, I learned that that area of the medical center does this kind over over charging ALL THE TIME...

talk to the office manager first, if that doesn't help talk to the dentist, if they don't want to help you report this to the best business burial so they can get them in check , finally next time you make any transaction of any kind get everything in writing please that will save you money and headaches

Key would be did you get anything in writing as to the original quote.

Visit India it is much cheaper be a tourist - see the Orient and have your teeth checked too.

It's your word against theirs, Don't pay it. Let them take you to court then countersue them.

Unfortunately I do not think you can sue them but i would talk with the office administrator and make it clear as to what has happened. Another thing that I would do is talk directly to the dentist about this. As the dentist has the biggest stake in customer satisfaction he/she will make the effort to correct the employee. He/she may even work out a payment plans or forgive some of the debt to make it right with you. You never know until you ask.

I think a lot of dentists pull this I got a quote for $500 and then the day of the surgery ( before ) they said the insurance would only pay a certain amount and it would end up being around a $1000 out of pocket expense. I think everybody knows that dentists pull this stuff all the time that is why you go to a trusted dentist and one that you were referred to. $1000 dollars is pretty standard for wisdom teeth insurance unless you have the top of the line coverage.

I think dentists and tattoo artists do the samething I'll charge you $200 an hour instead of saying it is going to be a $1400 tattoo.
