Can Mexico keep a U.S citizen from leaving the country if you owe hospital bill? |
A friend of mine recently when to Mexico without medical insurance and got really sick from something she ate. Shes been in the hospital over a week now and has run up a bill of over $50,000. She was told that she can leave the country when shes well enough, but her mother who rushed to mexico to be by her side is being told by the hospital that she cannot leave the country until the bill is fully paid. Her mother was born in mexico, but has U.S citizenship. Can they really keep her mother there until the bill is paid? Mexico can do whatever Mexico wants to do. Probably. It's Mexico. You should have gone to England. of course |
