I bumped a car. Is it also his fault if he parked his car on the line separating two designated parking spaces

I bumped a parked SUV whlie trying to park my car to the designated space. It's really minor and only left a small scartch on the other car's rim. The dude was cool about it but the wife insisted to get my insurance info therefore I took couple pictures for the damge since they didn't want to call the police. After revewing the pics I took at the sence,I found the other car actually was parked right "ON" the line that separating two designated parking spaces. I am just wondering if this is also his fault since he parked right on the line? I know it鈥檚 my fault but I probably wouldn't bump to his car if he parked inside the desiganed space and left me enough room.

Nope.

The suv was a hazard to be seen. It is a "fixed object". It was not moving....you were.

You are responsible for his damage.

There is no "but he was not supposed to be there for me to hit" defense.

I accidentially backed into a car that was not legally parked. Even though I was the one doing the backing up, his insurance had to pay because he was not legally parked.

Having said that "on the line" (vs. "over the line") might be a bit of a gray area. Frankly, report it to your insurance company, and if they can get out of paying (because you are not at fault), they will.

It is your fault. You hit his car which was not "illegally parked" You pay and it can mean getting a new rim. Hope your insurance covers it. Next time look for a bigger space or be more careful. Look on the bright side, you didn't hit a child, just a car.

You hit a stationary vehicle, it's all your fault. Even parked over the line, you did not have to try to park in that space, and you judgment of distance caused you to hit his car.

Nope. There are not any laws that say you have to park between the lines in a parking lot. If you didn't have enough room you should have parked in a different space.

unfortunately traffic law doesnt apply completely in private property... such as parking lots... but still, he who hits gets to pay... it cant rightly be "his" fault if he isnt even there can it?

no it is not his fault.

i would think that you are right, it is partly his fault, and good call on taking the pics of the strach. as long as they don't file it on your insurance i wouldn't worry about it to much. if they do, i would contact someone that can give you legal advice on the matter asap!!!

i believe its his fault
