How To Handle a Speeding Ticket in Texas?

I recently recieved my first speeding ticket and another because my registration had expired. I told the officer I had the updated insurance but I didn't have it with me. He said that if I brought it to court they would take it off. But I'm confused about this whole process since it's my first time. When I called the court they said that if I wanted to request a court date I had to send a letter. When the lady was explaining it to me I was a bit confused on how she was wording it. Can anyone from experience tell me how to handle this and walk me through the steps?

ahh, I'm sorry, to answer the question. It was my insurance that was expired not my registration.

Appear in court on the date on the ticket at the time on the ticket. Bring the ticket.

Bring along your current insurance card. If it shows you had coverage when you were arrested for speeding the judge will drop that part of your ticket. If you can't prove you had insurance in effect when you were arrested you will have to cough up about $250 for that part of the offense.

Which leaves the speeding. When you appear in court on the day on the ticket and it is your turn to talk to the judge, plead "No Contest" and ask for driving school to erase the ticket. That will save you about $250.

If you don't show up in court they will add another $500 to the bill for failure to appear. That is what you agreed to when the officer asked you to sign the ticket.

Hope this helps. Bottom line is take care of it all on the day you are supposed to go to court or it will turn into a monster that will follow you for months and months and keep getting more expensive!

First of all, you are mixing terms. Registration and insurance are two different things. Wich one was expired? Hving updated insurance would not get you off the hook for an expired registration.

send a application or letter to the court to get a date for trial then bring that to court and then your all good and get your registration renewed good luck
