Should this doctor be responible for this repeated blood test bill?

My friend Ed's doctor had him had blood test. The result of one item showed something that Ed thought was an error--but anyone with a doctor's license should be able to tell it's not an error. Ed told his dr about the "error" and asked the dr to request a second round of blood test for the same (many) items, to make sure his blood specimen were not mixed up with someone else's. The dr did so, apprently either didn't read the first test report carefully or didn't have the *basic* knowledge that the "error" which Ed thought was an error was actually no error. The insurance co. would not cover anything for Ed for the second test because it tested the same items shortly after the first test. So Ed is facing a big bill to pay. Is the dr responsible, partly or completely, for Ed's having the second test unnecessarily? Can Ed file a lawsuit to have the doctor to pay for the second blood test? Thank you for your input.

Thank for the input! But what about a doctor who does not read the test report of his patient carefully?

Ed asked for it Ed got it. Ed should have to pay it. I know it sucks but in the end its Ed's mistake and he should of asked for an opinion before a restest

you can't bill an insurance plan for the same thing 2 times in the same 90 day period, sometimes even for the same 12 month period. it was not recommended for him to have the blood work done a second time, he is the one that requested it. i don't think he has any sort of valid claim

If Ed requested the second round of tests- Ed can pay his bill.

The insurance company has a number on the back of the card that Ed can use to discuss this issue with his insurance company.

No, Ed "played" doctor and asked for more tests - it's his responsibility.
