Are we able to file a police report 2 months after an accident if we just found out the driver is not insured? |
My husband was hit by a woman who didn't shoulder check while switching lanes 2 months ago and exchanged insurance information with her. The damage was minimal and he didn't call the police. We have finally been informed from her insurance that the vehicle wasn't covered at the time. We live in Florida and don't know what to do next as we have tried contacting her and she won't return our calls. Thanks for any help. We called our insurance and they told us to directly deal with hers. Your insurance company should be handling it, not telling you to deal directly with her. Your mistake was not making a Police report immediately. Unfortunately, the report is only a documentation of occurrence, and I doubt very much that the Police would make one out after two months. Check your policy, you should have uninsured motorist coverage. Your last alternative would be small claims court if you're trying to recover any losses. Yes, you can indeed file a police report, and you should. call the police. You did report it to your insurance, so you should be OK. Richard is correct and complete. Take his advice. small claims court |
