So my ex is threatening to sue me over a small amount of $$$? |
My ex is claiming she's going to sue me due to the fact that we have a joint account up and a fee was processed that I did not account for. I told her I'm not giving her the money for the overdraft fee, so she's threatening to sue me. For how much I don't know. Here's the kicker though, she's basically ruined my life and I think I may have a case against her. Between the months of August to March, I gave her just about every dime I had. She needed the money to pay off her debt so she could return to school and so she could continue to live in her apartment. In the meantime, I had to neglect paying off my bills so that she could get bye. Basically, if I didn't have the money for her, she'd talk about sucicide constantly. I recently lost my job and litterally have no money at all. She has utterly taken everything I have. I don't even have health insurance now because I had to drop out of school to work full time to pay for her bills. Now I need to see a doctor and I can't! On top of that I am in heavy debt because of school loans. I have creditors calling constantly and my debt is averaging out to be about $24,000. I can't get loans to go back to school or get a car and I'm looking at filing brankrupcy. I even have the paperwork filled out in my desk. Her crazy emotional blackmail has put me in a fianancial rut. While I was out working doubles, she threw MY money at whatever made her happy. Now my credit cards are 4 months past due, my school loans are 7 months past due, lawyer fees and everything. I even quit my summer intership to appease her which banked me about $500 a week. Now I can't get a car or a job. I'm seriously screwed! Is there any way I can get back at her? anyone can sue for anything well, all i can say is good luck in trial. If you're allowed to have a lawyer, then get one. If it's a small amount (under $100), and unless and until you are actually served...the most effective thing to do is laugh and mock her when she threatens you, just say things like "I've always wanted to meet Judge Judy!" regarding the joint account - if the fee was accessed by a charge you made then you should pay it if not then dont worry about it Wow. You picked a real winner there. Glad you're out of it, well almost. Have you had your name taken off of the acocunt yet? If not, Please do. Actually, she probably can't sue you because it was a joint account. Both of you took total responsibility for it. If she abandons the account, the bank can come after you though. She is using this to keep in contact with you. She isn't getting her regular fix of manipulating you anymore and that p***** her off. So the best thing you can do is ignore her. COMPLETELY. It will take a little time, but she WILL move on to her next victim, she needs her pity-poor-me-do-what-I-want-NOW fix. And honey, next time? Think with the head on top of your shoulders, okay? good luck. |
