I was ticketed, for having an expired auto insurance card in nj and im required to go to court to prove I?

I acutally had insurance on the date. The officer said I would just have to show the judge my card. But I really didn't have insurance at the time however I purchased insurance the same day of my tix. Can anyone tell me if the judge will actually call or try to verify somehow if the insurance card/policy is real if I do somehow secure a fake insurance card valid during that time. Or should I show my real card since it has the date of my insurance being valid the same day of my tix since I brought insurance right after my tix?

Take the real insurance, and yes the judge will want know the time of your insurance and the time of the ticket so you will be found guilty.

If you take a forgery you may get found out and this is a far more serious offence (forgery and perjury). The judge would not be amused. In the UK it is standard practice for courts to phone your insurance company to verify your policy details so its real easy to catch out the fakes

Go to court, eat humble pie, and admit your mistake

EDIT - Either I am mistaken or other folks are. You are saying that at the time you were stopped you had no insuarnce but after being ticketed you went and got some the same day, right? If so then my above answer applies.

If in fact you had insurance at the time you were stopped then just take the document and you will be okay

To those that think the courts will ignore this as the problem has now been fixed this is simply not the case (at least in the UK) or else nobody would ever bother getting insurance if they knew that if they got caught all they had to do was buy some!

If the judge convicts you then he's not a jerk, he's doing his job and enforcing the law!

Do not lie. Real simple advice, but it'll save your bacon.

If you lie about the time you bought the insurance (and the judge WILL ask), and they find out, you'll be charged with perjury, a much more serious crime than driving without insurance.

If you bring in some sort of fake insurance, then you'll be guilty of both perjury and fraud, probably forgery of documents. Even worse, you could be looking at JAIL for those.

Bring the correct documents, tell the judge it just slipped your mind to renew the insurance, and show you corrected it immediately. He might give you just a warning, or a small fine. and let you go.

The other options are just dumb.

Most of the time they will dismiss tickets if you are able to show that you remedied the problem. Sometimes even after the fact. In all honesty if he wanted to be a jerk it really wouldn't matter that you bought the insurance before hand. The law isn't just that you drive with insurance, but that you must have PROOF of insurance when you drive. So if he is a jerk there really isn't much you can do, but in my experience they just want to know that the problem is fixed.

Yep, face the music, show the correct card and show you remedied the problem. You may get nailed anyway, but it's better to have that than lie to the court......BIG no no.

You'll probably just get scolded. Say "yes sir" alot

I hope you get fined good.....and using falsified documents could mean jail time instead of the fine you're going to get. Uninsured drivers cost the rest of us a LOT of money and trouble.

show up, present the judge with your paperwork showing that you had insuurance on the day in question, case dismissed. Been there, done it.
