No Insurance Traffic Ticket?

I got a traffic ticket for driving a car without insurance.

One day, I borrowed the car from my friend and we didn't notice the insurance was already due.
This is my first time and I didn't mean to drive without insurance.
I have to go to court.
What should I do right now...
What is the penality for this ticket.

Really thank you for your answe and time.

I live in Long Island, NY

I recommend that you get insurance immediately before you go to court.

The fine will depend on the state you are in. It should tell you on the ticket. It might be listed as bail. If I were in your place, I would go to the first court hearing. The date will be on the ticket. Take your own car insurance with you. Explain to the judge that you are pleading no contest and ask to explain the situation. The judge will most likely lower the fine from that on the posted ticket.

As the driver of the vehicle, you are responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle. That also includes making sure the tag is current & there's insurance on the vehicle. Just because the car belongs to your friend doesn't mean you are exempt from the law.
The cost of the ticket will vary depending on what state/town you're in.
Just show up to court on the day written on the ticket & tell the judge what happened. You might not get out of paying the fine, but you never know...

The laws differ from state to state. Many jurisdictions merely require that you obtain proof of insurance and present it to the court by the date listed on the ticket. Other jurisdictions will impose a fine and can suspend your license. Check with the clerk of your local traffic court and find out what is required in your jurisdiction.

It depends on where you live. Even in the US, the laws vary by state. It could be anything from a small fine to a suspension of your license.

When it comes to legal issues, the 'I forgot' excuse doesn't fly. If you're not responsible enough to ensure that you keep your insurance current, then you're not responsible enough to drive.

Many insurance companies are opposed to mandatory auto insurance. If interested go to http://www.centspermilenow.org/715oppos....

Depending on the jurisdiction, the initial fine could be as high as $5,000.00.

Get a lawyer. You'll need one.
