Ontario Driving - No Insurance?

I was pulled over yesterday and given a ticket for failure to provide insurance documents. The police officer said they would not charge me for not having any insurance if I brought in my insurance slip to them in 48 hours. My insurance is expired and I am going to buy a new policy today.
Can they charge me for for not having insurance after the fact ?

Yes they can -- insurance has dates on it.

So you'll have to pay the ticket this time, and get your insurance to avoid this in the future.

when you bring your insurance papers as proof - the effective date will be after the fact you received your ticket. You will need to pay the fine.
