I got beat up and i have no insurance. I had to have emergency surgery for a broken leg/ankle. What can i do? |
I was breaking up a fight outside a bar when someone put me in a choke hold. Check with the local courthouse to see if there is a victims' assistance program in your area. I wish you luck and hope that you heal quickly. I know how painful that kind of injury is (tri-malleolar fracture 10 months ago) First, talk to the police. Most hospitals and docotrs accept payment plans. While there are government assistance programs available, I wouldn't advise that. You're basically taking money from everyone when you do that, and honestly, you made the mistake for being at a rowdy bar with rowdy friends, in a brawl, so we shouldn't have to pay for it. Some states have programs for indigent people (people w/o insurance who don't qualify for programs like Medicaid). Usually the hospital has forms you can fill out for the indigent program. You'll still have to pay but it may be a lot less. Contact someone at the hospital/clinic that you are recieving care. Most likely, they have programs to help those that are uninsured and have financial need. Well, if you can prove who did it you might be able to take time to small claims court. However, my guess is you'll end up having to pay for it out of your own pocket, sorry. There are victims rghts advocates in every city that will pay you untill you fully recover. It may not be enough too cover your expences but it will help. No youre stuck. I got beat up a few weeks ago but I got off comparatively light. Broken nose and a broken rib. Hey though, dont you feel truly alive now. If you are not an employee of the bar sue them. If you are an employee then it is a workers compensation case. This first thing to do is get a police report. sue the guy that did it to you or the place they worked for if a bouncer. |
