What is the art of negotiating?

I'm not talking about negotiating with terrorists, or negotiating a good deal for you insurance, just negotiating in general.

Well, the first thing is: You don't have to take no for an answer. This is the golden rule for negotiation. Most people press on with an issue and then when the person consistently says no, they stop pushing.
Negotiating isn't about manipulation, intimidation, or taking advantage of people. Negotiating is about coming to a common ground and agreeing upon it. It is finding an equilibrium.
Both parties have to win.

Negotiating is about having a game plan, strict tactics to stand by. Knowing what you have to do, and being able to counter attack with what the other party may throw at you.

Negotiating is the finessing and haggling process of closing a deal. It isn't always an even, mutual comprimise.

Someone who could sell you an ice cube in a snow storm for $100 and make you think you're getting a good deal is a good negotiator. Rhetoric and sociology are two good topics of study for negotiating.

There are two answers.

The actual art is the truly understand both sides, know what you are willing to give up and not, and make a civil agreement.

The way it should be done is to not negotiate and to take what is rightfully yours. Whether it is yours or not, if you are the more powerful then it should be yours. Anyone that thinks differently is weak and shouldn't be allowed to vote or reproduce.

Understanding the other sides interests as well as yours. Then, seeking a way to satisfy all concerned. In order to do that you have know all about the other side and LISTEN. You can't negotiate out of greed, but you can out of a fair and rationale approach.

if anything that is WORTH.....you do not need to negotiate....

but if anything that is "less worth", then people start to negotiate....
