What type of permits or legal steps would I have to get or take to start a sober living house.? |
I am very interested in starting a sober living home but I am unsure as to how I would go about doing so. I need to know if I need any special permits, insurance, state certifications, etc. Any infor would be greatly appreciated. depending on what city and/or state you choose to operate in will determine what licensure, if any is needed. most places will require at a minimum simple business license (i.e. tax permits, occupancy license, landlord/tenant license.) some will require you to go the additional mile and obtain state health dept. certification or even department of children and families blessings. i have owned a couple of these myself and it was pretty simple in florida. but again, you will need to check your local laws. maybe, if you can edit this question to reflect your location i can better answer your specifics there. now, all this being said: ultimately the number one thing to remember when opening a sober living home is that it is to be about recovery, not just about the money. these homes can be "cash cows" to some people and they loose focus quickly. hope this helps. if you need more info, i have a free ebook that i wrote that can be downloaded at my site listed below on the source list. blessings! it varies greatly by state, but you will need permits, certified workers, support of the community and so much more |
