Four Year Old Dr.'s. Bill? |
I had a bill of $342 that a doctors's office charge me in 2004. I never paid this because It stated that I got a couple shots that I never got, plus at time the doctor of internal medicine took off several moles. She said my insurance would pay for it (Blue Cross & Blue Shield at the time) They didn't pay for it. She lied to me & said that she never said that & she didn't remember. I turned her in to the Medical Board & I believe at the time they wanted some sort of information from me. I just sort of forgot about it & now today this biller & coder called & said that I owe this money to the doctor that is on the books & wanted my current address. I would not give it to her & just hung up. Can they get money out of me 4 years later or do I need to follow through with the Medical Board again? I am now on Medicare. This is in the state of Texas if that matters. The collection of this debt is probably outside of the statute of limitations. Check with a lawyer. If it is a collection agency tell them not to call you anymore, they are not allowed to harrass you. If you have a dispute about charges you need to work that out and possibly send a letter in writing. Hanging up is not only immature but that does not help you in any way. You just look uncooperative and look like you are avoiding a charge that is ligitimate. Get an attorney if need be. yes for up to seven years they can be sure and check your credit record and dispute it if it appears on your record in writing-it will bite you later if you don't Need to check out the statue of limitation in your state. In Arkansas medical bills statue is 2 years. |
